A flagship product of the Back On Track brand, the back warmer is increasingly sought after by riders, but what is it really for and how does it work? This article also includes testimonials from our community members who have used the Back On Track back warmer.
What is the purpose of the Back On Track back warmer?
The Back On Track back warmer is a technical product designed to promote relaxation in the muscles of the horse's back before and/or after work. It must be used when the horse is not being ridden (it is neither a saddle pad nor a quarter sheet). For example, it can be installed in the stall under a blanket, during grooming before a riding session, during lunging or ground work. It is the best ally for providing additional comfort to horses with stiff backs or those with arthritis.
"I used the back warmer for a stressed horse who couldn't relax. Once the back warmer was in place, it was a revelation! A horse that completely relaxes and doesn't move. It's clearly my essential item!"
"I'm pretty satisfied with the back warmer; my horse is less sensitive to being mounted. I think it helps him relax and come more easily into the right attitude at the beginning of the session."
How does the Back On Track back warmer work?
The Back On Track back warmer is made of a technical material called Welltex, which heats up upon contact with the horse and retains the heat produced to promote relaxation in the major muscles of the horse's back, specifically the lumbar and renal muscles. This allows the horse to be more relaxed, supple, and loosened up, making him available for work more quickly. A minimum of 15-20 minutes of application is necessary for optimal results.
"I see a real difference. It's been about a year since I've been using it, and I have horses who are muscularly available right away. It's become an essential item."
"My horse shows visible signs of relaxation: chewing, closing his eyes, more relaxed..."
How to choose your Back On Track back warmer?
There are 2 models of Back On Track back warmers: horses and ponies with a normal wither will find their comfort in the classic back warmer (100x100 cm for ponies and 100x120 cm for horses), while horses with a prominent wither will be more comfortable in the Royal Back On Track back warmer. Available in 80x105 cm, the latter has an anatomical shape, ideal for horses with a pronounced wither. The back warmer is equipped with surcingle loops for lunging work and 2 attachment rings to secure the Back On Track neck cover (sold separately).
How to reinforce the action of the Back On Track back warmer?
The Back On Track mesh sheet has all the advantages of the back warmer and can be worn 24/7. It is particularly appreciated by riders who do not always have the possibility to wait for the back warmer to take effect. The Back On Track mesh sheet can be used as a cooler, under-blanket or transport blanket, in addition to the Back On Track effect.
To accentuate the relaxing effect of the back warmer, some riders have the habit of massaging their horse with or without massage oil. This helps to activate blood circulation and make the horse available more quickly. It is also a pleasant moment to share with your horse, which strengthens the bond and identifies potential areas of tension.
"I find my horse more supple now that I use the back warmer. I also like to add a little massage before and after exercise to prepare his back and limbs."
